Failure

I watched Fighting With My Family and what struck me was the impact of Zak, the brother of the WWE diva Paige.

There is something to be said for the pursuit of a dream. A dream that doesn't mean anything to anyone else except you. There is enough said on never giving up, usually by those who have found a way to make their dream a reality. But for many, the original dream is thwarted, gets buried under an avalanche of life events and it seems as though it is forgotten completely.

For those of us who are the "also rans", it seems that the encouragement to pursue dreams is futile and brings with it inevitable heartache. It is true that some dreams are not for you personally, as much as you might like it to be. However, even though you might believe yourself to be a failure in that moment of time, that is the limited perspective of that moment. The repercussions of having attempted to make something happen are like a ripple in a pond. Both in your life and in the lives of those around you. You may never necessarily know the part you played in inspiring passion in the life of someone else.

The strand of web that is your life adds to the complexity and beauty of the whole web of life. Your dream is never just your dream. It's our dream. And for that reason, you should never disregard your dreams when you are inspired to pursue them. No matter how ridiculous or inconsequential it might seem. You never know who considers you to be their greatest inspiration.

And for yourself - if you reach for the stars you may not get one, but you won't come up with a handful of mud either (Leo Burnett).
