Just in time for Casino Beef Week.
One of those moments of whim and fancy and I find myself the proud owner of a new set of tarot cards. Not that I needed a new set. What spoke to me was the pure nostagia of the deck. This is pure 1950's in terms of images. Indeed, so familiar are the images that I am sure I have seen before in advertisements from the time period. The interpretations are advice to the intrepid housewife in her journey from new bride trying to keep it all together through to being "the Joneses" everyone else seeks to emulate.
Mops and brooms are wands, martini glasses are cups, dinnerware are pentacles and good old fashioned steak knives are swords. This really is a fun deck. Good and bad news alike is delivered in a quirky upbeat kind of way. Stuck at a party having to choose between bad and worse hor d'oeuvres is the no win situation of the eight of swords. A plate of eggs, sunny side up is the Sun card.
Whether it will be the right deck to launch upon an unsuspecting crowd at the Beek Week Saturday street market is another question as I am still gaining familiarity with each individual card. Is the Knight of Pentacles throwing the plates in a tantrum or is he cleverly catching them on the fly and putting them back in their place in the cabinet? It's all a matter of perspective.
Perhaps I shall see you there - 27th May 2023.
